It also takes up little room in the cupboard as the rectangular head flips down to create a very slim profile.

Our professional cleaner who tested the mop was also thoroughly impressed and said it was their favourite mop they’ve come across. The mop head glided over tile floors and hardwood floors, getting into awkward corners with ease – and without slopping too much water around. We found that this all-rounder meant we could ditch every other mop in our house, and just use this on whatever mess our family threw (quite literally…) at it. Of course, there is also a reservoir for holding water and cleaning detergent, and a spray trigger in the handle. If that’s not enough, it also has a scrubbing attachment so you can get into grout on tiles. It comes with three microfibre pads: one for cleaning and scrubbing, one for drying and shining your floor and one for dusting and polishing. The mop itself doesn’t feel the sturdiest, and we felt this performed better on low-level dust and dirt than anything too high octane.

And the small bucket doesn’t feel heavy for taking up and down stairs. Having said this, we loved that there’s a scraper on the side of the bucket for cleaning the mop head. We have marked this as adjustable height, but to adjust it involves unscrewing the handle and taking sections out, so it’s not something you’re going to want to do on the regular. And you have to fill the bucket to the top to be able to fully submerge your mop. But we did find it a touch fiddly to angle the mop to get it in the slots in the bucket.

This meant we didn’t have an excess of water slopped across the floor. The rectangular bucket has one side for soaking the flat-head mop and another for wringing out. Yet you can still use good old-fashioned steaming hot water and detergent – great for killing nasty germs on the floor. This bucket takes up a minuscule amount of room. These have fallen out of fashion recently, as they can hold onto bacteria and so need properly looking after, but they are fairly heavy-duty and have wringers built into the handle so you can squeeze out excess water.īeldray have created the answer to those with scant storage, but who love a mop and bucket combo. However, they’ve had quite the makeover and shouldn’t be overlooked as they’re durable and can do some serious heavy lifting in the cleaning department. Of course the traditional mop – the stringy ones that come with a bucket and a disposal head – are still around too. The heads on these tend to be microfibre, and rectangular and you can ditch your bucket entirely, meaning they’re great if you’re limited on space. Then you push it round, spraying out solution as and when you need it. They come with a trigger in the handle, and you can fill a reservoir with water and a dash of cleaning solution. They are not heavy duty though, so couldn’t take on the heft of, say, dried on Weetabix. These pads can be removed and washed, and are great for a quick swish around and getting into corners. There are flat mops which are often rectangular, and have a removable microfibre pad attached to the head.

There are a few different kinds on the market nowadays, and choosing the right one will depend on what you’re trying to do. And thanks to modern mops, this has never been easier to achieve. Whether you have hardwood floors, vinyl, tiles or laminate, there’s something deeply satisfying about having spotless floors.
